Or how the FCI World Heelwork To Music and Freestyle Championships came about.
Looking forward in time– there is just over a week until the official opening. It’s almost unreal that what has been in the planning since late 2006 is about to happen.
At one of the DKK HTM committee meetings Emmy Simonsen suggested - why not hold an official Championship in conjunction with the World Dog Show in 2010? That humble suggestion led to creating a set of rules suitable for a World Championship. Little did we realize then that the process of getting a set of rules approved by the FCI wasn’t just an email away, especially when official titles are involved. There is a specific protocol when new rules are introduced or rules amended. The rules were sent to the FCI Obedience Committee by the Danish Kennel Club who have been extremely supportive in this entire process.
In 2008 the rules were brought up in the FCI, and we did a lot of emailing to the FCI obedience committee to follow up. At the WDS in Stockholm in 2008, Johanna Allanach spent half a day tracking down and speaking with Mr. Johann Kurzbauer regarding the rules – explaining the format and our ambitions for the World Championships – and conveying the passion we have for our sport!
In the autumn of 2008 we informed the rules would be brought up for final approval in March 2009. Our hard work had paid off! Bring on the first official FCI World Heelwork To Music Championships.
Usually a story is finished with the words “The End” – but I truly believe this is just the beginning!
Well done to you all for all your hard work and perseverance!
